Have You Always Wanted to Learn Another Language?

Sunday August 24, 2008
Today's find in my search for continuing education around the world is a debate in Japanese sponsored by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei and the Continuing Education Division of the Ministry of Education. They've got two categories, one for speakers who have studied for less than two years, and the other for those who have more than two years of experience.

I have a friend, Cait, who has studied Japanese for years, and I bet she'd love to be in Borneo about now.

Several people commented on yesterday's blog that they'd love to learn Italian. What language would you like to learn?

Ha! I took several years of Norwegian in college at St. Olaf, a Norwegian school. I was so thrilled to have an opportunity to travel to Norway my senior year so I could practice. People looked at me with an amused expression as I choked out my questions, and then answered me in English. Eh.

I love learning languages but it’s so hard to keep them up! I think I would only tackle a new language if I knew I’d be visiting or living in the country in the near future, or would have a way to speak it regularly. It’s SO EASY to fall out of practice!
