The Joys and Challenges of Being a Boomer Student

Sunday October 12, 2008
I love surfing for the blogs of adult students, those ageless, lifelong learners who boldly go back into the classroom to achieve their dreams. This morning I found Cindy Downes, a 57-year-old empty nester who decided to take her own advice to her father and get her degree.

The thing is, it's not all that easy. Cindy discovered that even with an empty nest, some beloved things had to go in order to fit school into her life. Her internship at Oklahoma Magazine, something she loved doing, had to go.

What I love about finding these blogs is that they help us to know that we're not alone out there. We can learn from each other, help each other, and find encouragement in others braving the same challenges.

What have you found challenging about returning to school? Have you had to give up some of the activities you love? What advice can you give to help others cope with the stresses of school?
