Study Skills - Step by Step

Friday October 24, 2008
My favorite Japanese proverb is this one: Fall down seven times. Stand up eight.

I have always found that saying inspiring. It's the basis of our study skill of the week, Step by Step. The next time you feel overwhelmed studying, remember the last time you watched a toddler learn to walk. We've all seen it. They stand. They take a step. They fall. They get up again, and fall again. Sometimes they sit there and cry, but they always, always try again, step by step.

We can learn a lot from the youngest students among us. Fall down seven times. Stand up eight.

You can do it.

A mentor of mine when I was a teenager was fond of saying, “Son, you’re trying to run before you can walk.”
