Jennine Lynes - GED Score: 3,320 - Kudos Jennine!

Tuesday January 6, 2009
Jennine Lynes earned 3,320 points on her GED exam. Manny Fernandez wrote about her yesterday for The New York Times.

Of the thousands of students who have prepared for the G.E.D. exam at East Side House Settlement, no one ever earned 3,320 before, officials there said. The minimum needed to pass the test, which provides those who did not finish high school with a New York State high school equivalency diploma, is 2,250 out of 4,000.

That's quite an accomplishment, and Jennine isn't stopping there. She has dreams, and she's going to make them happen.

“I want my Ph.D. in history, and I want my master’s in economics and I want a master’s in political science,” said Ms. Lynes, a 25-year-old Bronx resident.

Kallie Szczepanski, Asian History Guide at About.com, could probably give Jennine a bit of advice about going after an advanced history degree. Her own road to a Ph.D. in History was a winding, but satisfying, one. She never gave up.

Both of these women are inspirations, just what many of us need during these cold January weeks while we're resolving to get back on whatever track will take us where we've always wanted to go.

Kudos to Jennine and Kallie! And thanks for the inspiration.

Do you have a success story? We'd love to hear it. Share it with us here or in the forum.
