Do You Library?

Friday January 9, 2009
Okay, I've never actually heard anybody say that, but it's kind of cute. It's no secret that when the economy tanks, library use goes up. It's free!

If you're not a regular user of your local library, your assignment this weekend is to go check it out. You do know where it is, right? Most libraries operate on a county basis and give library cards to anyone who lives in that county.

Most libraries also have a fantastic collection of reference books. Ask a librarian to show you around. If you just wander by yourself, you'll find great stuff, but you may never realize the extent of the resources available to you, especially as a student.

Many libraries also have private study spaces. If you have trouble finding a quiet spot at home, try the library.

This is one assignment you don't have to hand in. Isn't that nice for a change?

Hooray for libraries! I have always liked your blog and found it very informative. Now I know why. As a librarian (by education) and career development facilitator, I applaud anyone who recognizes the value of libraries in the learning process. As librarians, we connect people to ideas. Thanks for your support as an educator.

Hi Lorelle! I’m so glad you stopped by. I love a library and could spend all day long exploring! You have given me the idea that maybe I should interview a librarian for a How to Use the Library article. Are you game for being interviewed? Email me. :-)
