Non-Traditional Student Councils

The University of Wyoming has a fabulous student council dedicated specifically to non-traditional students. What a great idea! They've got a mission statement, calendar of events, list of resources and more.

The news is full of reports of people flocking back to school to prepare themselves for new careers now that layoffs are rampant and unemployment soaring. This means the roster of non-traditional students at every institution of higher education will be growing longer.

If you're an administrator or teacher of non-trads, consider mentoring a non-trad student council at your school. I have a feeling a LOT of people will be grateful.

If you're a non-traditional student, join your school's student council, or start one!, and be a part of shaping the future.

America is a can-do kind of place. Non-traditional student councils have the ability to serve an awful lot of people in the coming years. Get involved. Share your struggles and your successes right here, or in the Continuing Education forum. We'd love to hear your story.
