"Minnesota Adult Students Present Before Audience"

Thursday July 16, 2009
Minnesota has always been a progressive place. I was excited to find the article, Minnesota Adult Students Present Before Audience, on a blog created by CSD, Communications Service for the Deaf. In June, CSD hosted the first annual Student Profile night in Minnesota's Deaf Adult Education program. It sounds like the evening was resounding success.

Enrollment in the class includes adults from countries like Zimbabwe, Romania and China, and the U.S. All come from various educational backgrounds. While enrolling in Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes can be daunting, the one characteristic shared by each student is their fearless pursuit in learning the English language.

Students used technology to present their personal stories: the Internet, Publisher, PowerPoint, and video equipment. It was the first time in front of an audience for many of them.

“Technology in the classroom attracts learners to classes to build skills in reading, writing, and ASL,” said ABE Lead Teacher Jessalyn Frank.
