Martial-Colomb---Getty-ImagesI see various definitions of "non-traditional student" on the Internet. So what is a non-traditional student?

This is how the University of Arkansas defines non-traditional:

The University of Arkansas considers you a non-traditional student for Orientation purposes if you are any of the following:

  • 24 years of age or older
  • Have a spouse
  • Are the primary provider for one or more children
  • Pregnant
  • Active duty military soldier or veteran
  • Are transferring in 24 or more AP or college credit hours

You'll find variations at schools across the country, so check with the schools you hope to attend.

For our purposes here, we define "non-traditional" as 25 and older, returning to school for any reason, including lifelong learning. If you're reading this, you're most likely a non-traditional student, so come on in and join us! Learn something today. Learning keeps you young.
