Kent State University Continuing Education Costs and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees for continuing and distance education degrees at Kent State are the same as those for traditional programs. All federal and state financial aid applies to any degree completion, on-campus, hybrid, or online courses for adult education. Full-time tuition for Spring 2010 was $4,363 while the per-credit rate began at $397 for undergraduate work. Graduate tuition rates were $4,621 and $422 respectively.

Advice for Adult Learners Seeking Distance Education Opportunities

Huntsman notes that unlike many other continuing education programs, "The majority of Kent State courses are developed and taught by full time Kent State faculty. This is somewhat unique among large distance learning programs that frequently hire many part-time instructors and/or adjunct professors to develop or teach online courses."

This exposure to tenure-track and tenured professors who are active in teaching and in research may give students stronger grounding in theory and practice.

Students who don't wish to make the commitment to a full bachelor's or master's degree program might want to consider a certificate program. According to Huntsman, "Certificate programs have not yet reached their full potential but we expect that to change once employers begin hiring again and retraining becomes a greater need."

The Kent State University's distance learning options are somewhat limited for adult learners seeking bachelor's degrees. Additional continuing education graduate degree programs, such as Evaluation and Measurement, Library Media, Reading Endorsement and School Library Media are hybrid courses, offering up to 75% online coursework but still requiring some on-campus classes.
