The National Center for Education Statistics notes that non-traditional students include students who have taken a two-year break (or more) in their post-high school education, who work more than 35 hours per week, and who have dependents other than a spouse (i.e. children). Most of Ivy Tech Community College's 200,000 students meet this definition; the Indiana CC system is the largest in the country, with 23 campuses and classes offered in 75 communities and online to give Indiana residents with non-traditional schooling backgrounds access to higher education.
