Perhaps more important than what to wear, we've got five tips on what not to wear: What Not to Wear as an Adult Student!
Don't miss that one!1. Come up with a signature look all your own.
If you don't already have a look that has become your very own signature, invent one! Have fun finding the fashion element that really speaks to you. Is it draping a gorgeous scarf around your neck, something that accommodates both formal and casual styles? Maybe you love pinning a giant retro brooch on your sweaters, even tees. Your signature might look like:- Jeans
- Jacket
- Colorful scarf around your neck
- Fun bracelet
- Sandals or boots

Find whatever it is that makes you feel special, and make a signature look out of it. Just be sure to follow the rest of our dos and don'ts!2. Choose all one color, or black and white, if your goal is to look slimmer.
Okay, so we don't all have the figure we did when we were of traditional college age. So what? Don't hide under baggy sweats. Even if you're a little heavier than you'd like to be, you can still look fashionable. Choose a single flattering color and dress top to bottom in it.As an alternative, dress in black and white. Personally, I find black pants to be slimming, so I would start with black on the bottom half and have some fun with white on top. Or you might go all black with white accents:
- Black jeans
- Black turtleneck or tee
- Long black and white vest
- Fun, colorful necklace
- Colorful shoes
Choose a brightly colored hat or bag to add bit of spunk.
Help from Cynthia:3. Choose classic shapes and styles.
The classics are always in style, and there's a reason. Timelessness is what makes classics classic. Think Katherine Hepburn:- Trousers
- White shirt tucked in
- Scarf
- Loafers
- Maybe a hat
Classic styles have clean, basic lines with little fuss. Dress up your classics with something trendy, if you want to, but the whole point here is to stay away from trying to look like you're 20, something you're not.

4. Go natural.
There's something about the natural look and school that always seem to go together. If you're the girl-next-door type, you've already got this down:- Boot-cut jeans
- Sweater or button-down shirt
- Leather jacket if you need one
- Oxfords or low boots
- Maybe a pony tail

5. Find a shoulder bag that doubles as a book/laptop bag and purse.
There's nothing less attractive than bungling your way across campus trying to juggle books, a laptop, purse, jacket, and anything else you usually have in your hands. A phone maybe?Find a great shoulder bag that fits everything you need with you during the day:
- Books
- Laptop
- Purse
- Phone
- Folders
With a little luck, you'll find one that fits whatever look you've chosen: signature, classic, slimming, natural. Have a little fun!
