Continuing Your Education with Free Online Language Courses

Tuesday August 26, 2008
I have a new friend in my forum, Rachel, who introduced me to Palabea, an international platform for language learning, after we started talking about the Japanese language debate in Borneo.

Today, Jamie Littlefield, About.com's guide to Distance Learning, sent me a link to her list of free online language courses. What a fabulous list! It includes the romance languages we all love to learn, but it also offers more unusual language lessons: Armenian, Portuguese, and others.

Learning foreign languages promotes understanding of similarities and differences, and widens our world views. With Palabea and Jamie's list, it can also be free. Let's see, I think I'll go learn a few words in Korean. What about you?

Oh, and come talk to Rachel, me, and the gang in the forum. We'd like to hear your views.

Hmmmmm, while the idea sounds great, and we all love a freebie, I think I’d want to GO to a course (in Italy), and IMMERSE myself in it… after a day behind the computer the last thing I’m going to feel like is MORE computer time…

One of my biggest regrets is giving up on French, just when I was on the cusp of really getting the hang of it. It’s never too late, and I vow one day to visit Paris, speaking the language I still love.

Hi Paul,
You’re welcome to include links on your site to both my page here at Continuing Education and to Jamie’s at Distance Learning.

I’m glad you found us. Tell us about your site. It looks interesting.

Deb
